I prefer science fiction, fantasy, and horror without the spaceships, dragons, and zombies.

When You Were Pixels (Syntax #0.1)

When You Were Pixels (Syntax #0.1) - Julio-Alexi Genao A fast-paced tale of unrequited love in a dystopian world that's part The Matrix, part Fritz Lang's Metropolis.

So, why three stars? Shit, I have no frame of reference with which to properly assess whether or not this is successful M/M romance. I've never read anything in the genre before.

So, taken purely as an SF story, it works pretty well. However, there were many questions left unanswered, and I didn't quite buy the assassin's return. I'm also not a fan of epistolary storytelling, but the author does handle this better than most.

The writing was crisp and engaging. I would read another story in the author's Syntax universe.
