I prefer science fiction, fantasy, and horror without the spaceships, dragons, and zombies.

The End (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 13)

The End - Michael Kupperman, Lemony Snicket, Brett Helquist The 13th chapter (not the 14th chapter) of the 13th book did much to redeem this series. I enjoyed the series as a whole, despite its many flaws i.e. needless adherence to formula, repetitiveness, shameless "tricks" employed near the end of the series to increase page count. I don't think the author really had 13 books worth of story to tell here, and it shows. I kept reading because the books were cleverly written, truly very funny at times, and the dark tone appealed to me. Oh, and the illustrations are fantastic.

Side Note: The publisher could have tried a little harder when converting these to ebook format. The cover illustrations and interior art are poorly sized. Buy the print versions.
